VISIT THE MOTHER OF ALL ISLANDS AND SWIM IN THE CLEANEST PART OF THE ADRIATIC
Palagruža is an island 42 nautical miles away from Komiža, and since this island is completely exposed to the sea and winds, stable weather is necessary for this excursion. We set off by a motor boat in early morning hours, and in an hour and a half we will reach the heart of the Adriatic, the furthermost Croatian island of an exceptional beauty and rich history.
The archaeological site on Palagruža and its findings have proven that Palagruža was the island of the Greek hero Diomedes. The island is a nature reserve with plant and animal endemic species. On Diomedes’s island, along with a visit to the largest lighthouse on the Adriatic, (built in 1875) you will find out everything about the rich history of this open-sea island and hear some of the most interesting fishermen stories.
The island itself is 1400 m long, 300 m wide and 90 m high, and is covered in Mediterranean vegetation. Palagruža is a true open sea island at ''the end of the world'', offering a great escape from civilization.
