WELCOME TO Vis Archipelago
UNESCO Global Geopark!
The island of Vis

The island of Vis remained a terra incognita to the world until recently, despite being a central island in the Adriatic. It was the first Greek colony on the eastern Adriatic coast. Vis, along with the nearby islands of Biševo, Sveti Andrija, Brusnik, Jabuka, and Palagruža, as well as the entire Vis aquatorium, is protected as a Natura 2000 site. There are two main towns: Vis town, which serves as a ferry harbor, and Komiža, a charming little fishing town.
The Island of Biševo

The Island of Biševo is 5 nautical miles from the town of Komiža (on Vis island), and it is best known for its rare natural phenomenon, the Blue cave. Biševo island is the home of two particularly interesting and attractive geological phenomena, the Blue cave near Mezoporat bay and the Monk seal cave near cape Biskup. Both have been protected as geomorphological monuments of nature in the middle of the 20th century.
Brusnik islet

Brusnik islet is located 13 nautical miles from Komiža, and it is protected as a Natural monument. It is special because of its geological structure, and its plant and wildlife, including some endemic species. Since the island is a protected area, it is forbidden to endanger the flora and fauna on the island. Brusnik is a „rising“ island, and the only Adriatic island formed mainly from igneous rock.
The island of Saint Andrew

The island of Saint Andrew, known as Svetac or “the Saint“, is 15 miles away from Komiža. reflects many stories and legends from its illustrious past, including the adventures of real-life Illyrian Queen Teuta. The crumbling stone castle walls of her ancient fortification are still visible.
Jabuka islet

Jabuka islet is located 30 nautical miles from Komiža. Jabuka is composed of deep crust magmatic rock, whose magnetites interfere with seafarers’ compasses, making navigation in conditions of poor visibility extremely difficult around its waters. Jabuka is declared a geological monument of nature in 1958.
Palagruža

Palagruža is an island 42 nautical miles away from Komiža. It is the most remote Croatian island, located in the middle of the Adriatic sea, between the Italian and the Croatian coast. The lighthouse is located 90 m above sea level in the central part of the island, built in 1875, it is the largest lighthouse on the Adriatic.
